MDSC Systems signs €150 million agreement with state agency ECDI to supply field hospitals

The Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI) and Maru group companies, joint bidders AS Maru Metall and MDSC Systems OÜ signed a seven-year framework agreement for the procurement of mobile field hospitals and mobile medical aid stations for the Estonian and Lithuanian armed forces.

The first such framework agreement for mobile field hospitals and medical aid stations allows for making rolling orders for systems and their additions. It also ensures repair, maintenance, and development work, as well as the necessary user training for medical units. The total cost of the joint Estonian and Lithuanian framework procurement for mobile field hospitals over seven years is 150 million euros.

“At the beginning of October, we placed an order for the design and construction of a mobile field hospital for the Estonian Defence Forces’ 2nd Infantry Brigade. Currently, only the 1st Infantry Brigade has a field hospital, but our goal is for both brigades to have a modern mobile military medical field hospital capable of providing professional medical aid during exercises, as well as in emergency and crisis situations,” said Maia Prunt, the Category Manager for Soldier Equipment and Life Support at RKIK.

The new mobile field hospital will be completed in 2026. It will be used to provide medical support to the 2nd Infantry Brigade in emergency medicine, primary surgery, intensive care, nursing care, and outpatient care. The equipment and working environment, which comply with modern medical standards, will enable the provision of medical aid at the level required in Estonia. The field hospital will provide medical logistics for itself and other medical units of the infantry brigade, including the supply of sterile surgical materials and medical oxygen, which can be produced on-site. Additionally, the unit can independently produce electricity and clean water if necessary. The new hospital will also feature a sanitary module with toilets and showers.

MDSC Systems has 10 years of experience in producing mobile, rapid-deployment field hospitals. The company’s mobile field hospitals have proven their worth on the battlefield in Ukraine, saving lives of Ukrainian soldiers. Furthermore, a field hospital produced by MDSC Systems for the Estonian Defence Forces was used in Kuressaare during the COVID Pandemic.

According to Kristjan Kamdron, member of the management board of MDSC Systems, the long-term contract with RKIK allows the company to focus on product development to contribute even more to Estonia’s defence capability. “This is the largest contract our company has ever signed, and it demonstrates trust,” Kamdron stated. He added that MDSC Systems has gradually moved its production over the past few months to a new energy-efficient factory building in Männiku, Tallinn.

MDSC Systems and Maru Metall belong to the Maru Group, a construction and manufacturing concern established in 1991, operating entirely on Estonian capital. MDSC Systems is primarily known under the brands Maru Defence and Rolling Unit, which produce mobile solutions for both the Estonian and global markets.
